Vintage Retro or Second hand clothes

My friend and I were to attend a friend’s bridal shower over the weekend to do the normal oohs, ahs and be overjoyed at the prospect of one of our pals getting married. We arrived fashionably late looking all good and what not and started doing the rounds while apologising for our late arrival and giving our all too busy schedule at work as the cause. You ever notice how girls who aren’t exactly friends act all nice to each other while secretly throwing darts at themselves? Well it just amazes me. So while doing the rounds we encountered an old classmate that had an ongoing silent feud with my friend if I didn’t know better I would say seeing them together all hugging and kissing that they were the best of friends. The girl paid my friend a compliment on her ultra chic yellow sleeveless top with corsage in the sleeves and asked where she bought it. The reply was: oh gosh thanks its vintage. I got it from an up and coming store owner that is presently selling out of his house. At that point we moved on. In truth the top was really nice and I had also commented on it and was told it was a second hand. She just discovered a guy who specialises in used wears he actually had a shop but also sold out of his house for his special clientele who didn’t want to be seen buying okrika wake up albeit the politically correct term would be fairly used clothing in public. She also told me he brought in new stock on Fridays and I made an appointment to be there next Friday on my black berry. All through the week I was excited and couldn’t wait for Friday. This usually happens but the excitement was much more. I think it was the prospect of getting good clothes at a considerable cheaper price. At last the day came and I met up with my friend at a restaurant on Aba road. On getting there the first sight that greeted me was the array of cars parked outside the building. The latest jeeps, Hondas and Cameries. We got in and I saw various ladies of all sizes and shapes well dressed looking as though they just stepped out of a fashion shoot. They were all relaxed and having drinks and chatting. We sat down and were offered drinks I said I’ll pass and my friend said she would rather have ice cream which she was promptly given. After a short while, the drinks were done with the room was cleared and it was time for the unveiling of the clothes. The clothes were a mix of some fabulous outfits and others that I wouldn’t even want an envious enemy wearing. As usual the ladies were excited and dragging for the clothes as some of them were the same sizes. In all these chaos of ladies saying give me and NO. it’s not your size or I saw it first. There was a shocking exchange of words between two friends. The conversation went like Ada give it to me I saw it first and Ijeoma went but I picked it first if I told every body here to drop all the clothes causes I saw it first then no other person will leave here with any clothes. Ada obviously getting angry at her friend said but you are leaving for the UK on Monday I don’t even know why you are here. Ijeoma retorted why are you here? You just came back from Paris two weeks ago so please don’t start that one with me. This conversation got me thinking what is it with these things my mum will call rags? I decided to leave the pondering for later because I just saw a fabulous cavalli jean and if I had anything to do with it; I wasn’t going to leave this place without it. After all the bails had been opened, the guy left the ladies alone and we started dress fitting. We were all vigilant while praying that the outfit you like doesn’t fit the lady who picked it. If your prayer was answered, then you had to act fast and grab it just in case someone else was interested in it. This was almost always the case. After the dress fitting then negotiations were carried out with the guy individually and then you could leave with your clothes. It was I decided a profiting shopping experience. I carted away my jean, a lovely sun dress three beautiful tops and a lovely ocean blue slipper. I also wanted a Miu Miu bag to go with my slipper but I did not have enough money with me. Then the guy told me he would reserve it for me all I had to do was tell him when I would come to collect it and make sure I did as he would not reserve it past that day. I was elated and told him I would be there the next day at noon and of course I didn’t miss that appointment. My bill was cheap when you consider the prevailing prices at the hot shops in town. I got the jean for 2500 the sundress for 2000, the tops for 1500 each the slipper for 3000 and the bag for 5000. The total bill came to 17000naira. Now that was excellent I had seen a Miu Miu bag the week before and at the price it was being offered, I would have to make a budget for it then the cavalli jean that I don’t know the prevailing price fort but I do know a true religion jean goes for 40k and a cavalli would definitely be more expensive. I was excited and couldn’t wait to strut my stuff in my new outfits so when the opportunity came in the form of an opening for a new pub in town, I couldn’t wait. You just had to see me in my cavalli it fit like a glove. From head to toe I was decked out in okrika. As my friend came to pick me up with our dates, she was amazed so were the guys. It was all admiration for my taste, class and stylish look. We went for drinks first as we didn’t want to go to the opening to early. My friend made the excuse of powdering our noses and we left for the ladies. Getting there her exact words were see okrika wake up oh I just gave her a pinch and a smile as other ladies were present. After we left, I got thinking what would happen if I saw one of the other ladies at our secret shop? What will happen? How would we act? Just as the thought crossed my mind, I saw one of them and I went visibly tense. To my relief the lady was very nice. We hugged and as we did that she whispered you look good no one would ever know so relax. I did and had a fabulous night.
